William P. ("Bill") Reinhardt, 79, of Glen Head passed peacefully in his sleep at his home on Thursday, July 23, 2026 following a courageous fight against Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Bill was born in Glen Cove in 1946 and was a prominent long-time resident of the North Shore community known for running his well-loved family-owned waterfront restaurant Wall's Wharf in historic Bayville for over 50 years. More recently, he opened Hidden Harbor restaurant in Bayville in 2023, bringing the welcoming atmosphere of Wall's to a more intimate setting.
Bill graduated with a degree in Economics in 1968 from C.W. Post College, where he was an All-American wrestler, and completed graduate studies at the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1983. Bill enjoyed a long career in banking, working for the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency for 39 years before retiring and bringing his expertise to bank clients as a consultant with Alvarez & Marsal following the Great Financial Crisis. Bill also consulted to community bank Metropolitan Commercial Bank for over 25 years, joining the Board of Directors in 2013 and becoming Chairman of the Board in 2018. Bill continued to serve as Chair until his retirement in early June 2026, not letting the physical limitations posed by his illness prevent him from sharing his deep wisdom and sound judgment.
Outside his banking career and family business, Bill enjoyed an active life, kayaking on the Long Island Sound and tending to the garden at his family home in Glen Head. He enjoyed entertaining family and friends at the restaurant and was a generous host. He will be remembered as a valued mentor and supporter by many whose lives he touched professionally and personally.
Bill is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carol (née Fernández); his daughter Cassandra; his brother Robert ("Robbie") and his wife, Amy; his sister-in law Betty Niemczyk; and many cherished nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins.
The visitation will be Wednesday, July 29, 2026 from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm at Whitting Funeral Home, 300 Glen Cove Avenue, Glen Head.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill's memory to Team Gleason (www.teamgleason.org), a non-profit organization providing services and support to those with ALS and their caregivers.
