Stella Gordon, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished member of her family, passed away on November 22, 2025, at the age of 102. Born on March 26, 1923, in Brooklyn, NY, to Eva and Mike Rawski, Stella lived a life filled with love, creativity, and determination.
Stella was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Harry Gordon; and her son, Steven. She is survived by her devoted daughters, Phyllis and Barbara, and her adored grandchildren, Paul and Alexandre.
As a teenager, Stella met Harry in the candy store her mother owned, sparking a bond that lasted a lifetime. They married in 1944 while Harry was on leave from World War II. Their partnership was one of deep friendship and devotion—Stella’s optimism a perfect balance to Harry’s occasional “doom and gloom.” Their love was the heart of their home.
Before becoming a mother, Stella had an impressive professional life as a defense worker during World War II. She inspected gyroscopes for ships and planes to ensure they were assembled properly—a bold and pioneering role for a woman of her era. Later in life, she remained deeply connected to that period, finding joy in watching classic films on TCM, especially Casablanca, even though Harry famously fell asleep during their theater showing.
Stella was endlessly creative and exceptionally skilled with her hands. She was an artist, a crafter, and a talented seamstress who could take on any DIY project. She was also a gifted cook known for her delicious Italian dishes and unforgettable soups. In her garden, she found peace and pride—especially in her beloved peonies.
Above all, Stella will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and gentle spirit. She was easygoing, upbeat, and ever hopeful. She was an extraordinary mother, a loving grandmother, and a warm presence in the lives of all who knew her. Her memory will be cherished always.
