Marjorie G Paffendorf, (88) of Glen Head, NY died peacefully Tuesday, March 10th, and is survived by her husband Carl Paffendorf, Sister Barbara Noble, Brother David Stenger, Daughters Pamela Ransom (Mark Labrie), Kimberly (Thomas) Hardardt, Patricia (Benjamin) Paffendorf Hoen, And seven grandchildren, Sarah Ransom, Emily (Scott) Ransom-Mosley, Thomas Hardardt, Holly Ransom, Hillary Hardardt, Agusten Hoen, Wade Hoen and a great grandchild, Henry.
Marge lived a beautiful life filled with family, faith, and friendship. She was born on October 8, 1937, in the rural community of South Gate, Indiana, to Marie and Paul G. Stenger. She spent her early childhood attending a one-room schoolhouse before moving with her siblings, Barbara and David, to Brookville, Indiana.
Marge enjoyed a classic small-town upbringing surrounded by family and friends and was active in both her school and community. After earning a secretarial degree, she began her career as an office manager at Pension and Group Consultants in Cincinnati, Ohio. It was there that she met the love of her life, Carl Paffendorf, with whom she shared 63 wonderful years of marriage.
Soon after, Marge and Carl made the big move to Long Island, where they first settled in Roslyn Heights and later in Glen Head. There they built a home and raised their three daughters - Pamela, Kimberly, and Patricia.
A devoted wife and mother, Marge balanced family life while continuing her education, earning an associate’s degree in social sciences, and working in real estate. She was a great admirer and supporter of Carl’s career and was known for her warmth and charm.
Deeply devoted to her Catholic faith, Marge gave generously of her time through volunteer work at St. Mary’s Church, the Salvation Army, and Glen Cove Hospital. She was also an active member of the community, serving as president of the Nine Holer’s Golf Club at Brookville Country Club where she also enjoyed weekly games of bridge and mahjong with friends. Her hobbies were reading, cooking, and shopping - never passing up a good garage sale!
She was also a master in the kitchen, cooking for her family and parties with skill and grace. Those who knew her admired her innocence and honesty, which endured even after her move to the NY Metro area. Marge enjoyed family reunions at the Jersey Shore and a piece of her heart always remained with her family in the Midwest.
Marge will be remembered for her beautiful smile, devotion to family, and the joy she brought to those around her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Marjorie Paffendorf’s memory:
