Joan Elizabeth Beck, age 84, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2026, in Chicago, Illinois. Born on December 28, 1941, Joan lived a life defined by faith, selfless love, and quiet strength.
Joan spent most of her life on Long Island, where she raised her family and built a life rooted in faith and service. For the past five years, she lived in Chicago with her beloved daughter, Elizabeth, in the home they shared together. Joan passed peacefully there, surrounded by love, with her daughter Elizabeth and her devoted sister Natalie at her side.
Joan was a deeply loving and selfless mother and a devoted Catholic whose faith was lived through generosity, forgiveness, and quiet humility. Above all, she was an extraordinary mother whose love for her daughter was constant, unconditional, and unwavering. She also shared a lifelong, deeply cherished bond with her sister Natalie.
Joan married Vincent Beck on September 10, 1966, and stood faithfully beside him throughout his career as a lawyer. When Vincent became ill, Joan cared for him with steadfast devotion, patience, and care until his passing on November 13, 2012. Their marriage reflected Joan’s deep sense of commitment, responsibility, and grace.
A gifted artist, Joan found joy and meaning through painting and won many awards for her work. Her creativity was an extension of her spirit and her ability to see beauty in the world. She loved traveling the world with her daughter, delighting in new places, shared adventures, and simple pleasures — especially oysters, which never failed to make her smile.
Professionally, Joan devoted herself to caring for others, first as the Head Nurse of Pediatrics, where her compassion touched countless children and families, and later as a Title Closer, a role she carried out with integrity, care, and quiet excellence.
She is survived by her beloved daughter, Elizabeth; her sister,Natalie; her brother-in-law James; her nephew,Richard; and her niece,Lori. Joan was the beloved daughter of Tessie and Joseph Sadowski and the widow of Vincent Beck.
Joan’s legacy is not measured in years, titles, or accomplishments, but in love — freely given, patiently lived, and deeply felt. She gave without keeping score, forgave without condition, and loved in a way that made others feel safe, seen, and cherished. Her love endures in the hearts of all who knew her, and most profoundly in the life of her daughter, who was her greatest joy.
