James "The Prez" Monroe

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of James Monroe, affectionately known to many as "The Prez," who departed from us peacefully Thursday afternoon. A cherished member of the Jones Beach Lifeguard Corps, the Prez dedicated his life to the safety and well-being of beach goers, serving with unwavering commitment for 47 years from 1962 to 2009.

His legacy of kindness, leadership, and passion for life guarding will forever be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege to know him. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, and all those touched by his incredible spirit.

Rest in Peace, Prez. You will be greatly missed.
