Henry P. (Hank) Siewers was born to German immigrant parents on July 17, 1931, the older of two children, in Brooklyn, NY. He went to PS 193, Midwood High School and then attended Johns Hopkins University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Hank was then accepted into Officer Candidate School for the U.S. Navy graduating in 1954 with the rank of Ensign. He went on to serve aboard the USS Battleship New Jersey (BB62) initially as a main battery officer and then as an assistant navigator. After his active service, he remained in the naval reserves, retiring as a Korean War Veteran with the rank of Lieutenant Commander (LCDR).
In 1957, he began his banking career in the executive training program with the Hanover Bank. Of the many branches he managed, his favorite was Officer in Charge of 30 Rockefeller Center (yes, 30 Rock!). After many mergers, he retired from J.P Morgan Chase as a Vice President in 1992.
Subsequently, the First National Bank of Long Island sought out Hank to open their prestigious Locust Valley branch. He was with them until his “retirement” in 1996. For several years afterwards, he would go on to help out FBLI when other branch managers took vacation, etc.
Hank met his future wife, Mildred, at his parents’ 25th Wedding Anniversary in 1954. They were married in 1958 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Brooklyn, NY and celebrated their union at the Casino in Schuetzen Park, North Bergen, NJ. They lived in Glendale, NY until the birth of their first child, Lisa, and then took their small family to Glen Head, Long Island, NY where they had Mark and Todd. In 1995, they purchased a beach front condominium in Cocoa Beach, FL and there they enjoyed winters until they sold their Long Island home in 2018 and became full time Florida residents.
Starting in 1992, Hank was asked to join the Locust Valley Rotary Club where he initiated the “Red Kettle Club” for the Salvation Army and received the Paul Harris Award for his exceptional service. He was also a proud member of the Daybreak Rotary Club of Cocoa Beach until his 80th year, and continued his membership in the Military Officers Association (Cape Canaveral Chapter), the USS New Jersey Veterans Inc.
Hank is survived by his wife, Mildred and their three children; Lisa (Chris De Zarlo), Mark and Todd (Linda Siewers).
