Gerald (Gerry) Vincent McAree
January 25, 1939 – November 4, 2025
Gerald “Gerry” Vincent McAree, of Glen Head, New York, passed away peacefully at his home on November 4, 2025.
Born on January 25, 1939, in Mullindava, County Monaghan, Ireland, Gerry was the son of Charles and Bridget McAree (née Rooney). He was raised in Monaghan, where he learned the value of hard work, humor, and quiet generosity —qualities that defined him throughout his life. After spending his early years in Ireland, Gerry moved first to London, UK, then to Cambridge, Canada (outside Toronto), and finally settled in New York, where he built a life rooted in family, friendship, and hard work.
A proud member of the Carpenters Union (Local 608) and the National Guard, Gerry approached every job with dedication and pride. Known for his strong work ethic and spirited personality, he was full of mirth — always ready with a story, a hearty laugh, and a twinkle in his eye. He loved good conversation and never met a stranger he couldn’t turn into a friend - unless that stranger was a building inspector. Gerry was immensely proud to become an American citizen and lived the American dream - turning sweat into prosperity and providing the means for his family to pursue their aspirations.
Gerry is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Annie McAree, and his children Gerald, Colleen, John, Nora, and Tim. He was a devoted grandfather to Amanda, Olivia, and Duncan McAree; Gerry and Nick Egan; Charlie, Hugh, and Delaney Strecker; and Ann and Lena McAree. He is also survived by his siblings Tony McAree, Patrick Nicholas McAree, and Betty O’Sullivan.
He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters affectionately known as Auntie Sister, Jemmy, Peter, Johnny, Gene, Hugh, Desi and Monica.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Gerry’s life at a wake on Thursday, November 6, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Whitting Funeral Home in Glen Head, New York. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Roslyn Harbor, followed by burial at Locust Valley Cemetery in Locust Valley. A reception will follow at Mims in Roslyn, New York.
Gerry will be remembered for his laughter, strength, and the love he shared with all who knew him. His voice and spirit will echo in every story told and every laugh shared in his memory.
