Frederick Junge

Frederick Junge, 84, passed away, leaving behind a lifetime of love, service, and unforgettable memories. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, veteran, firefighter, and friend whose quiet strength and generous heart touched everyone who knew him.

 Frederick proudly served his country in the United States Navy, carrying the values of honor, integrity, and selfless service with him throughout his life. He spent many years working aboard tugboats, a career he loved and one that would place him at the center of history on September 11, 2001.

On that tragic day, Frederick was aboard a tugboat helping evacuate people from Lower Manhattan, transporting countless individuals to safety as the attacks unfolded. In a moment when so many needed help, he answered the call without hesitation, embodying the courage and compassion that defined his life. 

Frederick was also a proud member of the Glen Cove Fire Department’s Chemical Company serving as Captain In 1974, dedicating countless hours to protecting and serving his community. Followed by countless years in the exempts. Whether in uniform, aboard a tugboat, or simply helping a neighbor, he believed in putting others before himself.

When he wasn’t working or serving others, Frederick found his greatest peace at his beloved log cabin in Vermont. Surrounded by family, fresh mountain air, and the beauty of nature, it was his favorite place to relax, laugh, and make memories that will be cherished forever.

Above all else, Frederick was a family man. He shared a lifetime of love with his beloved wife, Margaret Junge. Together they raised four children: Mary ellen, Frederick, Laurie, and Kathy. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Zackary, Matthew, Lauren, Miles, Lucas, Nicholas and Michael, each of whom held a special place in his heart.

Those who knew Frederick will always remember his warm smile, his dependable nature, and the phrase he was famous for saying: “Careful now.” Simple words that reflected how deeply he cared for the people around him and how he always looked out for those he loved.

Frederick’s life was defined by service to his country, his community, and his family. His legacy is one of courage, humility, kindness, and unwavering love. Though he will be deeply missed, the example he set and the memories he leaves behind will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Fair winds and following seas, Frederick. Your watch is over. Thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and your love. You will be forever missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
