On February 18, 2026, Catherine Hanley (nee McDermott) passed peacefully in her 91st year after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Beloved wife of the late John Hanley and loving mother to John J. Hanley, Jr. (Teresa Esposito). Proud grandmother to Isabella, Lara, and Victoria Hanley. Eldest One of nine children of James and Dorothy McDermott. Born in New York City, she moved with her family around Queens, eventually marrying John J. Hanley in 1956 and moving to the suburbs of Franklin Square where she and her husband started their family. She was a legal secretary at the prestigious W.R. Grace before starting her family and becoming a full time mother. She resumed her career as a legal secretary for the white shoe firm of Cadwalder, Wickersham & Taft until she retired in 1988. With her husband, they continued to pursue their love of travel and each other by exploring the United States and abroad. They shared a love of Florida where they spent winters, eventually sharing that love with their three beautiful granddaughters.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to NOSH and/or the Parkinson’s Foundation
