Carol Matthews

Carol (Frank) Matthews, formally of Glen Head, passed away peacefully at home in Stuyvesant, New York on May 2, 2026. She is survived by her husband, John Matthews, Sons James (Doreen), the late Jeffrey (Jen), Brian (Deborah), Peter and her daughter Joan. She was also a grandmother to seven. Dylan, Donovan, Caroline, Brian Jr, Keira, Megan and Sean.

Carol was born in Sharon, CT and grew up in Falmouth, MA, where she found a love for the water and everything about it. After high school, she moved to Locust Valley, New York, where she met and married John Matthews. Over two decades, she helped raise many other children while providing day care for local families and working as a teacher's assistant at a pre-school program. In her free time, she was an avid and award-winning gardener and was active in the Presbyterian Church in Glenwood Landing. She loved spending time with family and friends and hosting gatherings.After retirement, Carol and John lived in Honeoye Falls, Valatie and Stuyvesant, New York. She continued to stay active with the Valatie Presbyterian Church and was a staple in the local food pantry, giving to others as she loved to do. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Valatie Food Pantry P.O.
