Ann M. Stewart, 81, of Glen Head died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on
Tuesday, May 19, 2026. She was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend throughout her life. Ann was born in the Bronx, the oldest of three children of the late John and Eileen (nee Jordan) Ahearn, where she attended several different catholic elementary schools and enjoyed growing up with her extended family and cousins. Like many WWII veterans, her father moved the family to Long Island where she grew up in Levittown, graduated from Memorial High School, made lifelong friends and eventually met her husband, the late Anthony “Tony” Stewart. They settled in Glen Head in 1971 and together they raised their three sons, Greg (Jennifer), Michael (Meagan), and Anthony (Michelle) in a boisterous home filled with love, laughter, and tears. After the boys graduated college, she enrolled in Nassau Community College and received her associates degree, making her entire family proud. Ann was a longtime teacher’s aide at North Shore High School and retired from the Locust Valley School District after 17 years as a payroll administrator. Despite being widowed in the prime of her life, Ann was fully engaged in living life to the fullest. She traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe, played many years of golf at the Glen Cove Golf Course, and was a longtime member of the Hempstead Harbor Yacht Club. Wednesday Afternoon Canasta with the girls was a favorite activity in her later years. True to her Bronx roots, she was a lifelong Yankees fan, but always eager to cheer on any New York sports team.Ann was proud of her Irish-American heritage and a faithful parishioner of St. Boniface Martyr Church in Sea Cliff. Most importantly, Ann loved her family with all her heart and absolutely adored her grandson, Brendan. She is predeceased by her sister Dorothy O’Connell and brother John Ahearn, and leaves behind many family and friends who will miss her infectious presence.Wake services will be held on Friday, May 22 at Whitting Funeral Home in Glen Head between the hours of 2 PM-4 PM and 7 PM-9PM. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, May 23 at St.Boniface Martyr Church in Sea Cliff at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow at the Cemetery of The Holy Rood in Westbury.
