Angela Grazina Janusas

Angela ‘Grazina’ Janusas, 91, of Sea Cliff, NY, passed away peacefully at home on

July 8, 2026 after a brief illness. Angela was born and raised in Kedainiai,

Lithuania and lived there on a farm with extended family. Angela’s mother

taught at the school she attended until the third grade, when her family learned

they were on a list of undesirables and fled the advancing Soviet army near the

end of WWII.

They successfully reached Allied territory in Germany and lived in displaced

persons camps for five years until they emigrated to Canada, where they settled

working on a tobacco farm in Ontario in the Tilsonburg - Delhi area.

Angela graduated from the University of Toronto with a bachelor’s degree in

Language Studies and moved to New York after securing employment as a multi-

lingual administrative assistant at the United Nations.

During this time, she met her husband, Saulius ‘Saul’ Janusas, and they started a

family in Queens, ultimately moving to Long Island where she raised four boys,

who were all taught her native Lithuanian language growing up at home and in

Lithuanian School on Saturdays.

Angela also worked as a paralegal at personal injury and real estate law firms in

Long Island, and after her children were grown, she graduated with a master’s

degree from the Long Island University Palmer School of Library Science, and

worked as a research librarian until she retired from Levittown Public Library.

Among other things, Angela enjoyed reading, taking long walks, swimming,

boating, sewing and shopping at Trader Joe’s. She was also very fond of

attending mass and singing with the Annunciation Church Lithuanian choir in

Williamsburg, Brooklyn while her husband Saulius provided pipe organ

accompaniment.

Angela ‘Grazina’ is survived by her sons, Andrew (Kristine), John (Joy), and

Simon; and grandchildren, Christopher, Aidan, and Trevor, and her sister

Maryte. She is predeceased by her sister Jurate ‘Julie’, her son Stasys ‘Stan’, and

her husband of sixty five years, Saulius ‘Saul’. She will be remembered for her

resilience in raising four boys and living in a house with five men she fed and

cared for, her Lithuanian cooking, her educational and work accomplishments,

and for the unconditional lifelong love and commitment she bestowed upon her

family.
